LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION
In the preproduction phase of a new short film and I spent the majority of the week location scouting. I’ve got one location that I’m in love with, but I went searching all over western PA for a back up. I found a couple that might work, but none that really compare. Will know one way or the other next week.

PHOTO: I took this in 2010 in Boston. I have no idea who the lady is, but the moment was too great to not take a photo. VIDEO: My reel for 2011. The song used in the reel is Majesty by The Panics, one of my favorites.

I finally got around to compiling and sorting a bunch of my photos and editing my reel. The result? My new website with a bunch of my photography and film work. The site is going to be a “living site” that I’ll constantly be updating, so check back often. Also I’ve decided to turn BUENOSIRIS into my go-to place for news updates and will become the source for the behind the scenes look at my latest projects, while still showcasing my favorite photographers, films, and music. (I’ll be slowly revamping BUENOSIRIS soon too!) Finally, if you’re on twitter, you can also follow me on twitter @Andrew_Batista.

PHOTO: Steve Martin by Norman Seeff. Just finished Steve Martin’s autobiography “Born Standing Up” which was pretty incredible/encouraging/and melancholy all at the same time. I’ve been a fan of his for years and he is probably my favorite comedian. I have to say, the thing that stood out to me the most in the book was how long it took him and what he had to do to find himself as a performer. Mostly, as it turns out, it was a matter of working daily to perfect his craft. A recommended read for anyone in the arts. (Tip: if you’re inclined toward audio books, Steve Martin, is the reader on this one which gives it a whole different tone. It’s kind of like *THIS*)

Halloween has been one of my favorite holidays since I was a kid and I can’t help but get excited when it comes around. Living in Western PA doesn’t help either. The crisp air, cloud covered skies and golden foliage just encourage the spooky ambience. Plus, its a great excuse to be a kid again.

PHOTO: Snapped these while traveling this past week. [L] This lady was a total angel. The only empty seat on the flight was between her and I, and I turned to her and said that we were lucky. She kindly smiled and said, “No, we’re blessed.” I couldn’t argue. Such a simple and gentle reminder. Right on. [R] Western PA lightly covered in snow in October. Shot some beautiful stuff and met some really great folks in Virginia Beach this week while shooting the documentary. Excited to share more details when I can.

VIDEO: Grown Ocean by Fleet Foxes. This sets the perfect mood for a travel day. (My bro drove me to the airport and we rocked Fleet Foxes as we cruised through the rain and traffic.) Currently in Charlotte and headed to VA Beach for a Documentary shoot. Never been there before. Love the mystery that comes with travel. This video totally captures the majesty of it.

This is my first reblog, appropriately of fellow blog brother Parker Young who runs, in my opinion, the coolest Tumblr, COPASETICA, the inspirator of BUENOSIRIS. He’s an amazing photographer, all around good guy and he just got engaged - Congrats man! Really excited for him. If you’re on Tumblr, follow him. He’s always posting amazing stuff. {SONG} Justice “Newlands”. This is just what I needed. A certain classic-rock sound that hasn’t really yet been revisited well like this. A rock-n-roll song structure that somehow sounds tough even though the instrumentation has a pretty wimpy disco sound. I love the curve Justice throws with this. I’m SO into it.

PHOTO: Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. Love this. SONG: Hurts Like Heaven by Coldplay. I know there’s a lot of folks who only like Coldplay’s first two albums, but I’m not one of them. Their new album is pretty solid with a nice mix of synth, stadium rock and small acoustic pieces. Love this track in particular - pure pop bliss. Feels good. Here’s to having a great day.

Also worth checking out is a great little *interview/listening session* Coldplay did on NPR. I always love behind the scenes stuff.

PHOTO: Elvis [photographer unknown] SONG: Always Gold by Radical Face. I feel like there’s a strong potential that I could in fact be coming down with some sort of cold so I’m just hanging around indoors tonight. Tea and movies on a rainy evening - not complaining.

If you’re into the Radical Face track, I highly recommend “Wrapped in Piano Strings.” One of my all time favorites.

VIDEO: Midnight City by M83. I have to admit, I wasn’t in love with this song when I first heard it [I couldn’t get passed the weird synth and the gonzo looking creature on the album], but once I saw this video it totally works. It’s superbly directed and reminds me of films in the 80’s where kids kept taking over things.
